Man accused of having drugs posted to him to appear in court

A man accused of trying to have more than £2,000 worth of cannabis posted to him will appear in court again in July.

Vincent Sims of Clarence Terrace in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

The 23 year old pleaded not guilty to being concerned in producing cannabis and attempting to possess it with intent to supply it on April 21.

Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the hearing police were called to the Post Office in Spring Valley after staff spotted a suspicious parcel addressed to Mr Sims.

Inside was almost 112 grammes of the class B drug worth £2,238 – police arrested Mr Sims when he arrived at the sorting office to collect the package.

Mrs Hughes said her sentencing powers would be insufficient to deal with the case, and bailed Mr Sims to appear in court again on July 21 for committal to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
