A teacher from Port St Mary is now safe and well back at home after a terrifying ordeal in Libya.
26-year-old Kirsty Bartley had been teaching in Tripoli for the past 18 months and up until two weeks ago had only good things to say about the country.
She said the unrest escalated quickly and before she knew it she was forced to barricade herself in her apartment whilst planning her swift exit from the country.
Kirsty got out of the country of her own volition without the assistance of the British rescue operation, which she has branded as non-existent.
A major concern for Kirsty is now the wellfare of her students; along with her fellow coworkers they are devising ways of passing advice and information to the students via email, in preparation for their exams.
She said she would one day like to return to the country, but not until the current conflict is resolved.
