Tynwald has voted in favour of making the controversial legal high Methoxetamine a controlled substance.
The drug is better known by its street name ‘mexxy’ and will now be illegal from July 1.
The move follows similar measures in the UK, which saw the drug become a controlled substance in April, however the ban in the UK was not automatically applied in the Isle of Man.
The ban is temporary, which is now awaiting the outcome of an investigation into Mexxy by the UK’s drug advisory service
The chairman of the Island’s branch attends the UK meetings, which means that the Department of Health is kept fully updated on the progress of this work.
