Jailed teen told to reflect on "childish" behaviour

Sentencing 17-year-old Kyle McGeown, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him she hoped a "short, sharp custodial sentence" would bring home the consequences of his actions. 

 

In January this year he caused £158 worth of damage to a car wing mirror and in December last year he was stopped by police after banging on the front door of a house before running away.

 

His advocate said McGeown accepted his behaviour was immature and the damage to the car was a "spur of the moment act of frustration" following an argument.  

 

At Douglas Courthouse this week the Deputy High Bailiff told him the crimes were "in the grand scheme of things minor" but would not have been to the victims involved.

 

She said McGeown, who committed an offence whilst on police bail and broke the terms of his probation, had left her with no other sentencing alternative. 

 

Handing him two-weeks for provoking behaviour, and four weeks for criminal damage, she told him to take the opportunity to consider his actions whilst at the Isle of Man Prison.
