Island could break from English GCSE system

The co-coordinator for 11-19 education has told 3FM the Isle of Man could break away from the English GCSE system if major changes are introduced.

Paul Craine was commenting after plans were revealed today in England for an overhaul of education for 14 to 16-year-olds.

These include scrapping the current grading system and replacing A to G with 'one' to 'eight' as well as significant changes to core subjects such as English and the sciences.

Until now there has been a consistency between the systems in England, Wales and Northern Ireland but Mr Craine told us it appears this will now end: PLAY AUDIO
