The Council of Ministers has commissioned a review into how the Department of Education, Sport and Culture works with primary and secondary schools.
The independent review, which will begin next week, will be undertaken by consultants Beamans.
It will focus on the how the department works with schools - including relationships with governing bodies and school leadership teams.
Chief Minister, Howard Quayle MHK said: 'The Department and our schools have a shared objective: to achieve the best educational outcomes for our young people.'
The review is scheduled to commence next week with a target date for submission of a report by the end of July 2020.
