Homeowners must have working fire alarm

The Fire Service have reiterated their message that all households must have a working fire alarm.

The message comes following a house fire in Port Erin earlier this morning which saw the residents trapped in a smoke logged property.

Following an issue with the oil boiler in the lounge the house became smoke logged, due to the front door being locked the fire crews had to force entry.

Upon getting in the house the two residents were escorted safely to fresh air, the female was taken to hospital to be treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

The fire team say this was another case were there was a lack of a working fire alarm, and in this instance it was fortunate the outcome wasn't more serious.
