Binge Drinking a Problem Says MHK
MHK Bill Malarkey from the Department of Home Affairs has addressed the concerns that the Island has a binge-drinking problem.
A major Health and Lifestyle survey conducted on the Island over the past year revealed 15% of adults to be binge drinkers.
This figure is however 3% lower than that of the North West of England showing significant progress according to the Home Affairs MHK.
In 2009 a survey to find the countries with the worst binge drinking problems put the Isle of Man in 4th place.
Mr Malarkey says although the figure of 15% is worry things could be a lot worse, and the relatively low figure should dispel the belief that the Island has a major problem.
