Hoax calls - think of the consequences, say police

Police are warning of the potential consequences of making hoax calls to emergency services.

The Early Action Team says it's been speaking to a young person over the matter, saying on this occasion it didn't have any adverse effect on the public.

Officers say prank 999 calls can delay someone getting urgent medical attention, stop police responding to a crime and also disrupt the work of firefighters or the coastguard.

Authorities took to social media urging people to think hard before considering making a hoax call, as it can stop emergency crews getting to those in need of help.
