Heritage railways partially re-opening next week

The Islands Heritage Railways will partially re-open from next week for the summer season.

The Steam Railway will welcome back passengers from next Thursday (July 23) until September 13 and will operate from Thursday to Sunday each week.

The Dining Car is going to also get back up and running from Thursday, July 30, with a number of new events planned.

Meanwhile, the Manx Electric Railway will return from next Saturday (July 25) until September 13 and will run between Saturdays and Tuesdays.

However, the Snaefell Mountain Railway will not run this summer due to 'financial and operational challenges'.

Following the announcement, Infrastructure Minister, Tim Baker MHK, comments: "Despite the very limited visitor market we recognise the important and distinctive role the Heritage Railways plays in the Isle of Man experience, so we have taken the decision to reintroduce the MER and Steam Railway for the summer season.

"It’s a limited four day a week timetable that coincides with the opening of the Laxey Wheel and other Manx National Heritage attractions around the Island on selected days over the summer."
