Douglas company Elder Healthcare (IOM) Limited has confirmed it will be entering a plea of not guilty to three charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 [An Act of the UK Parliament] as applied in the Isle of Man by an Act of Tynwald.
The charges arise following an investigation into a fire at a property in Fuschia Lane in Douglas in late 2019.
The next scheduled court hearing is this morning (Thursday) before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas Courthouse.
A 96-year-old resident tragically died in a fire in the flat she privately rented. The directors and staff of Elder Healthcare again express their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
There is no connection between the death and the charges the company now faces - one of failing to fulfil its health and safety duties and two of failing to comply with regulations.
Elder Healthcare (IoM) Limited said the company has no further comment to make at this time and intends to defend itself in the legal proceedings.
