The Department of Health have confirmed that they will be going ahead with plans to recruit a General Surgeon with a Special Interest in Breast Surgery.
Concerns have been raised by opposing groups that it will reduce the specialist service provided on the Isle of Man.
There has been some concern that the consultant will spend half of their time conducting other general surgery but the Department maintains that the new consultant will spend the majority of their time with breast service patients.
The job description for the Consultant to lead the Island's Breast Service has been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons.
The Department will be advertising this post after the June sitting of Tynwald.
