Gates and posts smashed at DEFA plantation

Police are investigate criminal damage at an Island plantation which could cost thousands of pounds to repair.

Officers say a vehicle has driven through the Glion Gill DEFA Plantation via Beary Mountain damaging five gates in the area sometime between 8am on Friday, October 30, and 8am this Monday (November 2).

It's believed the offenders have driven from the top of Mill Road, Greeba across the area known as ’12 Shares’ and into Glion Plantation and then driven right the way through on the forest road, exiting onto the Governors Loch (Green Lane) and then out on to the Brandywell Road.

Forestry Bylaws prohibit the use of motorised vehicles within DEFA owned plantations and other land.

The constabulary says although it's a remote area it is regularly used by walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders and it's hoped someone will have seen what happened.

Anyone has information which they think could help officers with enquiries are asked to contact Peel Police Station on 842 208, Police Headquarters on 631 212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
