A teenager from Port St Mary is starting the year £700 worse off after being caught sleeping in his car whilst drunk.
Police found 18-year-old Tony David Pitt in the driver's seat, with the engine running, just after 4am on New Year's Day.
Pitt, who lives on High Street, was said to be unsteady on his feet and unable to answer questions - he failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.
At Douglas Courthouse last week he admitted being drunk in charge of a vehicle.
His advocate told the court Pitt had returned to his car, which was parked on Station Road in Port Erin, after leaving a party and realising his phone had died.
He said Pitt had intended to charge the device and carry on walking but had fallen asleep after putting the heater on.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described Pitt's actions as 'foolhardy in the extreme' - he was also ordered to pay £125 in prosecution costs and handed 10 penalty points.
