Nelson Street first in line for facelift
Work on the multi million pound first phase of the Douglas Town regeneration is expected to begin on Monday of next week.
The first stage to give Nelson Street a facelift was given the go ahead back in March.
Trial work will be getting underway on Monday with full-scale works to follow swiftly after.
There have been subtle aesthetic improvements across Douglas including the fencing around the bus station and plans to give Woodbourne Square a makeover.
A total figure is yet to be confirmed but the scheme will cost millions with money coming from the Government’s £8 million regeneration fund, the Douglas Council have also contributed £2 million, the council say they hope the Government will be forthcoming in providing additional funds as the scheme progresses.
The project is scheduled to take approximately six weeks and will include the installation of new paving and bespoke wall-mounted LED lighting units.
The Douglas Council say they hope these works will herald the start of a process that will ensure Douglas becomes a vital and economically viable capital fit for the 21st century.
