Firefighters rescue missing Sausage dog puppy

A sausage Dog puppy - Penny, who went missing yesterday has been rescued by Emergency Services and reunited with her owner.

At around 1.30pm yesterday a member of the public called the Emergency Services Joint Control Room (ESJCR) indicating a sausage dog puppy had fellen into the river near to Tesco’s on the Lake Road side of the river.

Douglas crews tried to find the pooch for an hour and half, but to no avail - and say at the time, there was no sign of either the owner or puppy.

Crews say they “remained hopeful  the puppy had got out of the river of its own accord and left with its owner as neither could be found.”

Unfortunately this wasn’t the case and the owner later contacted the ESJCR to inform us that their puppy, a sausage dog called Penny, was missing and was last seen by the river on Lake Road.

At this time Emergency Services admit they ‘feared the worst’ as the puppy had been missing for a number of hours and had been seen falling into the river which was moving fast with strong currents.

Then just before 8pm, a member of the public contacted the ESJCR again informing them they believed they had seen a puppy in the River Glass near Tescos.

Crews rushed to the area and were met by a small crowd of people who were looking for Penny - with help from colleagues from Port Security - she was located on the river bank.

Using ladders, firefighters were able to rescue her, she was found very frightened but was safe.

The owners of Penny, the sausage dog puppy, were delighted to be reunited with her.
