A man who drunkenly approached police turned out to be carrying a Stanley knife blade, a court’s heard.
Graham Peter Skillicorn of Cushag Road in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 62 year old had earlier pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited article in public on December 27 last year.
The court heard Skillicorn approached a parked police van - they were so concerned for his welfare he was arrested and a later search found the blade.
Skillicorn gave a number of different explanations for having the knife to probation workers, but told police it was for self-protection.
After hearing he’d been convicted of the same offence last September, magistrates imposed a six-week jail term, suspended for one year, and ordered him to pay £125 costs.
