A driver who left the scene of a crash in Douglas has been jailed and banned from the roads.
Paul James Galbraith of Derby Road in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse via a live video link from the Isle of Man prison.
After a trial, he’d been found guilty of driving without due care and attention, failing to report an accident, having no insurance, failing to produce his driving licence or changing his car's ownership, and having two defective tyres.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Galbraith was driving a black VW Golf when he crashed into a Jaguar on Circular Road on May 16 2019.
But he left the scene, leaving behind his car’s licence plate, and was later found repairing his vehicle in a lane behind nearby Peel Road.
Mrs Hughes said the other driver, whose car was written off, had been caused a disproportionate amount of trouble because Galbraith was uninsured.
She jailed him for a total of 12 weeks and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
