A campaign has been launched to encourage victims of domestic abuse to report it to the Isle of Man Police.
The Don't pay the penalty poster campaign coincides with the world cup.
During the last world cup reports of domestic violence on the Isle of man doubled.
Detective Constable Judith Bradford, the domestic abuse officers for the Isle of Man police told 3FM that people are the victim of domestic abuse 35 times before reporting it.
She said that historically, during the World Cup, reports of domestic abuse double. It’s perhaps because people take more time off work, there’s increased drinking at home and some diehard football fans wanting to take it out on someone if and when England loses. (audio above)
The purpose of this campaign is to urge people to report abuse sooner rather than later.
