Directors of Corrin Memorial Home welcome move to give 6 months notice of any potential closure

Directors of the Corrin Memorial Home have welcomed a move to give its residents at least six months notice of any potential closure.

Earlier this week, Tynwald supported a motion to give those who live at the home a minimum of six months notice whilst it gives the DHSC and the home's trustees and directors more time to discuss the future of the facility.

The Board of Directors there had previously announced in April they intended to close the facility's doors in July due to not being able to make it financially viable in the long-term.

However, they add it's not yet clear how this motion will be implemented and - absent a clear and firm commitment from government over the support to be made available - they are having to continue with plans to close the home to residents on July 31.

In a statement, the Corrin Home Directors say: "Following the debate in Tynwald on Tuesday 18th May, the Board of Directors of Corrin Home Limited are grateful that Government has indicated that it is committed to keeping the Corrin Home open for a further six months.

"The Tynwald motion instructs the DHSC to work with the trustees to ensure a minimum notice period of six months for residents. However, it is not clear at this time how this motion will be implemented in practice.

"Absent a clear and firm commitment from Government regarding the support that will be made available, and how it will be implemented, we are unfortunately having to continue with the plans to close the Corrin Home to residents on 31st July 2021.

"The Board of Directors would like to reinforce our willingness to engage with Government regarding the short term future of the Home. This is a very worrying time for our residents and staff alike, and the Board of Directors is committed to working with the Government to endeavour to find a long term solution to the provision of care, including residential care, to the residents of Peel and the Island."
