Department of Infrastructure issue jubilee street party guidelines

The Department of Infrastructure have published a series of guidelines for any members of the public wanting to hold a street party to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this July.

1. Ensure you have approval to close the road from the Department of Infrastructure Highways Division. For advice either telephone Denise on 686930 or email denise.maddrell@gov.im you will have to complete the attached form and submit it before the closing date of 31 March 2012.

2. Street parties may be held on minor residential roads but cannot be held on main roads or bus routes.

3. You must notify your neighbours of your intention to hold a street party and make a note of any objections.

4. You must inform your Local Authority or Commissioners, Fire Service and your Neighbourhood Policing Team.

5. When closing a road for a Street Party the risks are perceived to be low providing certain guidelines are followed, therefore this year it has been agreed that organisers will not need to obtain public liability insurance for the closure to be approved. However, as the organiser of the event you may consider that you would still like to obtain this cover and any insurance broker on the Island should be able to help.

6. Organisers must submit an application and a plan of the street that is proposed to be used for the party, showing where the road closed barriers and diversion signs will be placed.

7. The organiser must make someone responsible for collecting, returning and putting out the road closed signs, diversion signs and barriers. The signs and barriers can be borrowed from the Department’s Operations Division at Ellerslie Depot, Crosby without charge if they are collected and returned by the organiser, otherwise there will be a delivery charge. Signs and barriers must be ordered in advance by phoning 850000.

Remember to only remove the signs once you have removed any obstructions from the road.

Always ensure there is clear access for emergency services i.e. Police, Fire and Ambulance. Place tables and chairs in such a way to keep access clear and do not block access to any fire hydrants, these are painted yellow.
