The Department for Enterprise has been told to reconsider its response to a Freedom of Information request after it refused to give information about a loan to King Williams College.
The Information Commissioner's Office says the DfE was asked for information about a grant or loan but said the information was exempt.
However, the ICO says the blanket refusal, on the grounds it was confidential information, was inappropriate.
It says the department must now reprocess the request and provide a new response.
