The Education Minister says the department has issues and options to look at over the summer months as he gets to learn his new role.
Tim Crookall was appointed less than a fortnight ago following the sacking of Peter Karran.
It's been all change at the top for the Department of Education and Children recently as two new political members were brought in in April, after John Houghton and Zac Hall were fired for not supporting Mr Karran's policies.
Mr Crookall says he'll have a lot to learn as he gets the Department back on track.
