Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture Propose Changes to Rules on Night Time Shooting of Rabbits
After concerns have been raised by farmers and landowners that the rabbit population on the Island is spiralling out of control a consultation is to be held to formulate new ways of dealing with the problem.
It's reportedly particularly bad in the north of the Island.
Rabbits are seen as a serious agricultural pest and cause significant damage to crops.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture are now seeing what changes can be made to existing rules that restrict the night time shooting of the rabbits.
The Department have issued a consultation outlining the proposed changes and how they could stand to benefit the Island’s farmers.
