A "violent thug" has been ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service after attacking a stranger outside a Douglas nightclub.
20-year-old Andrew Thomson got into a verbal altercation with another man outside The Courthouse just after midnight on May 23rd.
He proceeded to throw punches, and tussle with the man, causing him to fall face down on the pavement before kicking him in the torso - the victim was left with considerable cuts and bruising.
At Douglas Courthouse yesterday the Douglas man's advocate described it as "drunken thuggery" saying Thomson was intoxicated and was not normally a "nasty, violent individual".
The court heard Thomson, who's previously admitted a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm, has written a letter to the victim apologising for his actions and another to the court pleading not to be sent to prison.
Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said letters of support received for Thomson didn't match up to his behaviour - in addition to community service she ordered him to pay £750 in compensation.
She also instructed him to carry out any restorative justice measures deemed appropriate and made him the order of a three-month licensing ban.
