A teenager from Douglas who hospitalised a passer-by after lashing out at him when drunk has been ordered to carry out community service.
19-year-old Thomas James McBurnie, of Palace Road, kicked and punched the man as he was walking through the Villa Marina Colonnade in the early hours of October 2nd last year.
He later pleaded guilty to common assault - during a sentencing hearing at Douglas Courthouse last week Magistrates told him "this was an unprovoked assault - it was damn right nasty".
McBurnie was ordered to carry out 180 hours of voluntary work and banned him from licensed premises for two years - he was also ordered to pay £150 in compensation and £50 in court costs.
