Chief Minister Confident of Second Health Agreement Extension
The Chief Minister reassured Tynwald yesterday that he is confident the Island will get a second reprieve when the existing Reciprocal Health Agreement expires on September 30th.
Liberal Vannin Leader Peter Karran asked the Chief Minister for an update on negotiations in yesterday’s sitting of Tynwald.
He confirmed that he would be asking for a second extension whilst a more permanent solution is decided upon.
The UK’s new coalition Government is currently considering the finer details of the agreement, which sees UK residents receive free hospital care on the Island with it reciprocated for Islanders travelling to the UK,
In the event that they opt to definitively end the agreement in September a travel levy would be introduced or in the worst case scenario people would need to take out health insurance before making the trip to the UK.
