Change to UK university regulation will have knock ons for Crown dependencies

Concerns were first raised about fluctuating University costs when they were given the power to set their own annual fees.

A change to UK university regulation could see negative changes to the tuition fees for students in the Crown dependencies.

As it stands pupils from the Isle of Man have been classed as overseas students with the Government operating a single island rate with the body that oversees UK universities.

This looks set to change from the academic year 2012-2013

Concerns were first raised about fluctuating University costs when they were given the power to set their own annual fees.

The Department of Education and Children have said, the basis on which the 2012-13 charges will be made is currently subject to negotiation but the objective will be to maintain the principle of the cost of course provision.

It is anticipated an agreement will be reached with the universities later this year; it will then be taken for approval by Tynwald in early 2012.
