Cavendish to leave Team Sky?

With just over two years still to go on his lucrative Team Sky deal, it has been speculated that Mark Cavendish may be looking for a way out.

Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins said that he accepts his team mate's personal goals may have been compromised in this year's Tour de France, as it was not always possible to help lead out Cavendish to victory.

Describing his wish for his friend to remain on the team as 'selfish', Wiggins admitted that if Cavendish was to challenge the green jersey and win a greater number of stages in future, he probably has to step down from Team Sky.

Wiggins' comments echo those previously made by Team Sky boss Dave Brailsford, who said the team's focus on general classification rather than stage wins may be unsuitable for the sprinter's own ambitions.
