Castletown commissioners say they won't be responsible for any incidents should the government reopen the town square.
On Facebook, the local authority said the Department of Infrastructure wants to reopen Market Square against its wishes from October to February.
The board claims a safety review found the decision would pose risks to children, older people and disabled parking.
In a statement, it says it won't accept any liability for incidents arising from the Department's decision.
