Business as usual for fuel supplies

The Fire and Rescue Service and the Office of Fair Trading have reassured the public that it is business as usual for fuel on the Island.

Despite possible tanker strikes in the UK the Fire Service has said these would not impact upon local supplies which are brought in by sea and have no tanker involvement.

There is no strike action planned by local road tanker drivers as the issues which have led to concern are not relevant to the Island.

News of the possible strikes sparked panic buying of fuel in the UK but the Fire Service and OFT have strongly recommended against storing excessive amounts of fuel which it says is illegal and dangerous.

The public has been warned that anyone storing more than 10 litres of petrol on their properties must obtain a licence from the OFT and any incidents arising from the illegal storage of petrol will face legal action.
