Ban for drink driver who drove north in 'moment of madness'

A St Johns woman who was caught drink driving has been banned from the road after telling police "I'm absolutely guilty".

39-year-old Yvonne Cowin was stopped on Lezayre Road in Ramsey just before 5pm on Monday - she'd been drinking since lunchtime.

Officers were alerted by another motorist who described her black Ford Fiesta as being "all over the road".

She was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters where she was breathalysed - the reading showed she was over twice the legal limit.

At Douglas Courthouse on Tuesday she admitted drink driving - her advocate told the court it was a "moment of madness" and she was "at a loss" as to why she got in the car and why she went north.

Sentencing her Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined her £1,200 and ordered her to pay prosecution costs telling her "you risked your own life and that of others".

She also disqualified her from driving for three years and until she's taken and passed an extended driving test and drink drive rehabilitation course.
