Considerate lighting means more of us will appreciate the Manx night skies
The Isle of Man Astronomical Society has launched a new award to reduce light pollution.
The award will be made to the organisation or individual who has made the most significant contribution to improving the Manx Sky at night.
Dark skies with minimal light pollution is essential for viewing stargazing - there are areas of the UK where stars simply cannot be seen due to lighting from both commercial and domestic sources.
Society chairman Howard Parkin said carefully thought out lighting can be good news for everyone:

Over the next 12 months, the society will be asking for nominations from members and interested parties that have made an effort to reduce light pollution at www.iomastronomy.org
