40 Island OAPS in London for Maundy Money service

It will be the first ever Maundy Service to be broadcast live on BBC, as by chance it falls on the Queen’s 85th Birthday.

40 of the Island's Old Age Pensioners are in London today to receive Maundy money from the Queen.

The Island's Bishop Robert Paterson selected the recipients, based on their service to the local community and the church.

It will be the first ever Maundy Service to be broadcast live on BBC, as by chance it falls on the Queen's 85th Birthday.

The giving of Maundy Money is a tradition that dates back to medieval times; this year it's being held at Westminster Abbey.

The live footage will begin on BBC1 at 10.45am.

Barbara Skinner said she was shocked and delighted to be asked to attend the Royal Ceremony. (audio above)
