Man caught out socialising during lockdown jailed

A man caught socialising with friends twice in a week in breach of lockdown restrictions has been jailed.

Kieran Neil Cain of Empire Terrace in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

The 21 year old pleaded guilty to being absent from home without good reason under the Emergency Powers Act.

Rebecca Cubbon, prosecuting, told the hearing Cain had been warned by police after being caught on Douglas beach with friends on April 11.

On April 18, officers on patrol spotted him on Crellin’s Hill with another man closer than two metres apart.

When he was stopped, unemployed Cain admitted he was going to the shop with his friend but wasn’t going to buy anything and was simply socialising.

Mrs Hughes told him he was well aware of the restrictions and had already been given a warning, adding if one person ignores regulations it puts everybody else at risk from coronavirus.

She jailed Cain for a month.
