A young scientist on the Island currently studying for a PHD at Bath University is today set to become the first Manxman to ever venture to the South Pole.
23-year-old Joe Kinrade will spend nine days at the geographical South Pole as part of a six-week Antarctic research expedition studying Global Positioning System signals in the Earth's atmosphere.
The work forms part of the former Ramsey Grammar School Head Boy’s PHD project.
During his trip he will have some seriously challenging conditions to contend with contending with upto -50c temperatures.
Joe said he's very proud to have the honour of being the first Manxman to reach the South Pole.
