Work to construct new river walls to protect parts of Laxey from flooding will get underway later this month.
The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed the project to build a new structure from the bridge opposite Laxey Woolen Mills to a lower section further down will get started on Monday, May 17.
JCK Limited have been appointed by the DOI as principle contractors for the works.
It's part of the bigger scheme to improve water defences in the area following the devastating floods which hit the town in October 2019.
The initiative will see the existing wall demolished and replaced with a 1.6-metre high reinforced concrete structure which is bigger than the previous wall - the road-side of it will be faced with Manx stone to blend in with the surrounding area.
DOI officials say the works will take place from the start date in both the river and on the carriageway, adding it's been timed to minimise ecological impact.
Contractors will be out of the river by the end of September and the all the land-based work is scheduled to be finished by mid-October.
From the start date, Glen Road will be shut to traffic between Laxey Woolen Mills and Acacia Villa but access for residents will be maintained.
A no-parking and no-waiting zone will also be in force on the eastern side of the highway between Laxey Football Club and Acacia Villa.
