Work teams out in force to deal with widespread flooding

Mountain Road debris

The Department of Infrastructure has had to mobilise substantial resources around the Island to deal with widespread flooding issues.

The flooding has come as a result of constant heavy downpours over night, worst affected area the Mountain Road has been closed until at least noon tomorrow.

The volume of water resulted in significant landslides on the stretch of road from tower bends to Guthrie’s; this has presented the teams with the biggest challenges.

Some roads have lifted under the action of ground water pressure it’s thought however that these should settle back shortly.

You’re urged to drive carefully, keep your speed down due to the risk of aquaplaning and use headlights and fog lights as appropriate.

There is some further rain forecast which should clear later tonight however.
