Wipe data from old devices, Police urge

Always wipe data from old devices before you move them on.

That's the message from Police who say a member of the public contacted them saying they'd got an old computer from the recycling centre and when they started it up found the previous owners login details for banking and other sites.

Officers say the device has since been fully wiped but are advising anyone selling or disposing of old tech to make sure any important information on them is removed beforehand.

Authorities add numerous companies are available on Island to securely destroy hard drives.
