A warning has gone out to the public to take it easy when walking on the pavements due to the thick ice that has come as a result of the snow over the weekend.
To make things worse there has been widespread severe frost overnight freezing very hard everywhere.
The sub-zero temperatures dropped to between minus 4 and minus 9 Celsius in place with salt and grit becoming less effective at -5C and virtually ineffective below -7C.
The emergency services have reiterated that only necessary journeys should be undertaken with the Department of Infrastructure and local authorities working around the clock to get things back to normal as soon as possible.
