'Vishing' scams reported daily, OCSIA says

Cyber security officials are once again issuing advice to residents on how not to fall for scams.

The Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance says it continues to receive reports on a daily basis of voice call fraud, also known as 'vishing'.

The organisation says many of the bogus calls will begin with an automated message asking a potential victim to press a number which could transfer them to a fraudster who will often then try and create urgency or threaten someone with negative action if they don't follow instructions.

The OCSIA also adds if you're ever in doubt about who's contacted you claiming to be from a particular company, simply hang up and ring the company on a genuine phone number to verify if the call is real.
