The government's launched a public consultation on proposed changes to how public sector housing is allocated.
Policies are being reviewed by the Housing Agency, with plans to update income thresholds, adjust priority points and give more power to local authorities.
The Department of Infrastructure wants these changes to improve fairness and consistency when it comes to who gets government housing.
