A VAT fraudster given a suspended prison sentence after admitting underpaying £190,000 has been jailed on appeal.
The Attorney General argued the sentencing of Richard Ian Kissack of Falcon Cliff Court in Douglas was unduly lenient after he was jailed for 22 months, suspended for two years, after carrying out the fraud at recruitment firm Ambitions.
Judge of Appeal Storey and Deemster Montgomerie heard there would be a genuine sense of public grievance if the breach of trust and effect on the taxpayer didn't result in a custodial sentence.
They agreed, and sent Kissaack to prison for a total of 13 months.
