Tynwald set aside £10m for major Douglas promenade overhaul

Consultation reveals overwhelming majority want to see major investment to secure their long-term future.

The results are back from the Public Consultation into the future of the Douglas Promenade and it would appear the overwhelming majority want to see major investment to secure its long-term future.

Just over three quarters of the 452 respondents were in favour of the investment with over half stating that they were unhappy with the current aesthetic quality and appearance of the Promenades.

80% thought that maintaining the ‘gateway’ into Douglas was vital for the future promotion of the Island as a sought after destination.

Over 60% of the feedback wanted to see the horse tramway relocated to the side of the highway.

The consultation outcome will now be used by the Department to develop a detailed design proposal for the Prom.

Tynwald has provisionally identified a budget of £10 million over the next 4 years to progress the project.
