Two more acquitted in election fraud trial

Two more defendants have been acquitted of election fraud.

Yesterday's ruling means only two of the initial seven charged remain on trial.

It was ruled that Geoffrey Callister of Port Erin and Catherine Liggins of Onchan had 'no case to answer' and were discharged after four weeks of prosecution evidence.

On the eve of the case, Charles 'Buster' Lewin of Braddan admitted three counts of election fraud.

He will be sentenced at the conclusion of the trial which resumes today at 10.00am.
