The government’s asking people to stay away from dead birds after a case avian flu was confirmed in a bird found on a beach.
The guillemot was one of 70 dead and dying seabirds collected by the Department for Environment, Food and Agriculture over the last week.
Samples taken from the carcass have confirmed the H5N1 strain.
DEFA Minister Clare Barber says the risk to people is low, but the virus is highly contagious and people should stay away from dead birds.
