Thief stole knickers, booze and vape liquid

A serial thief has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after stealing underwear, alcohol, vaping liquid and cash.

17 year old Shannon Anne Bateson, of Derby Road, helped herself to £120 from a petty cash tin at St Christopher's Care Home, where she lives, on August 10.

At Douglas Courthouse this week she admitted the offence but said she had "no recollection" of taking the money.

During the hearing Bateson also pleaded guilty to three other offences of theft.

On March 2 she stole underwear, valued at £76, from Ann Summers on Strand Street - 23 days later she stole wine, cider and soft drinks from Shoprite on Chester Street.

On April 15 Bateson entered Ali's Electrical Store on Castle Street where she took e-cigarette liquid valued at £13.50.

Bateson's advocate told the court the teenager was "incredibly sorry" for what had happened adding: "She knows her behaviour was unacceptable."

Magistrates ordered her to carry out 80 hours of community service and pay over £227 in compensation to the people and organisations she'd stolen from.
