A teenager from Douglas has been fined £750 after losing control of his car whilst overtaking.
18-year-old Sam Adam Stannard-Duke, of High View Road, misjudged a bend and ended up hitting a wall on September 14th.
He later admitted driving without due care and attention.
Police were called to Foxdale Road just before 9pm - Stannard-Duke was uninjured but his front seat passenger required medical treatment for minor injuries.
He told police he'd been trying to overtake a van and estimated he was travelling between 60 and 65mph - despite the fact his R-plates restricted him to 50mph.
Passing sentence Magistrates told him: "I'm sure you appreciate how serious the circumstances of this misjudgement could have been."
They endorsed his driving licence with eight penalty points and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £50 - he must also keep his R-plates on for a further 12 months.
