Callum Murphy of Hillside Avenue in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 18 year old pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in a car park near Hillside Avenue on March 29 this year.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing police spotted Murphy shortly after 11.30pm and searched him after a man he was with ran off.
They found the baton hidden in his clothing, and Murphy told officers he’d found the weapon and decided to keep it because he thought it was cool.
Magistrates imposed a £1,000 fine, ordered him to pay £125 costs and ordered the weapon be forfeited and destroyed.
