Summer scheme will give pupils headstart heading into high school

The week long schemes held at the high schools are targeting those students who may struggle with aspects of the key topics, primarily numeracy and literacy.

A scheme to run during the summer holidays is endeavouring to give students moving into secondary school a headstart in key subjects.

The week long schemes held at the high schools are targeting those students who may struggle with aspects of the key topics, primarily numeracy and literacy.

Although seen as crucial for the 11 year olds they are not mandatory with parents given the option of signing their kids up.

More than 100 students will benefit from attending the extra lessons.

Aswell as offering the sessions the Headstart Scheme is also seen as a good way for the pupils to make new friends making the prospect of moving to their new school less daunting.
